BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Tuesday, May 23, after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a gas station at 1911 US 50 East.
Police arrested 31-year-old Chelsea Harris on charges of invasion of privacy, and resisting arrest.
According to the caller Harris was violating a protective order.
The caller told police Harris was sitting in the parking lot of the gas station at 1911 US 50 East. Police found Harris in a gray 2009 Pontiac G6 and she was asked to step out of the vehicle and was detained.
Blands Wrecker Service was called to tow the vehicle because Harris did not want to leave it in the parking lot.
Harris admitted to violating the no-contact order multiple times that day including when she attempted to call the male.
While on the scene, an ambulance was requested because the male caller was schizophrenic and was off his medication, and was possibly suicidal. The male was transported to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation.
While Harris was being transported to jail she became combative, screaming incoherently. Police say Harris was hitting her head off the cage of the vehicle multiple times and would not comply with police orders.
Upon arrival at Lawrence County Security Center Harris refused to exit the vehicle and continued to swear at the officer. She had to be physically removed from the vehicle.
An ambulance was called to the jail, to treat a laceration from Harris banging her head on the metal cage. While being treated Harris told EMS that she had been in an altercation with the male caller. EMS reported Harris had marks on her back allegedly from that altercation. Harris refused to speak to police or allow them to take photos of her injuries and refused to file charges against the male caller.
Harris was then transported to IU Health Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Once medically cleared she was transported to jail.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Officer requesting a warrant be issued for the male caller.
