BIRDSEYE – Celestine and English Volunteer Fire Departments firefighters responded to a boat fire at Patoka Lake Marina & Lodging, at 2988 Dillard Road in Birdseye Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported just before 4 p.m. A boat being towed reportedly caught fire. The driver moved the truck and attached boat to a safe location off the roadway across from the rest station before Benny’s.
According to firefighters, the owner filled the boat with fuel at the gas pumps when there was an explosion. The owners moved the boat across the street to keep the other gas pumps from catching fire.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
The entrance to Patoka Lake was temporarily closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Indiana State Police also responded.
