SEYMOUR – State District 69 Representative James Lucas, 58, was arrested early Wednesday morning by the Indiana State Police after he left the scene of a property damage accident.
He is also facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment and OWI.
Indiana State Police say Lucas was arrested after crashing his vehicle on I-65 just north of Seymour around midnight Wednesday.
Lucas drove away from the scene of the crash and a Seymour Police officer found his vehicle a short time later at a different location nearby.
He was arrested by an ISP trooper from the ISP-Versailles Post.
A blood test was performed at Schneck Medical Center. Those results are pending.
He was booked into the jail in Brownstown at 3:48 a.m. Wednesday and being held on a $705 bond.
Lucas, who lives in Seymour, was first elected to House District 69 in 2012 and previously served on the Seymour City Council, according to his biography.
House District 69 includes portions of Bartholomew, Jackson, Washington, and Scott counties.
