BNL foursome named All-HHC First Team

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s fantastic foursome of Annie Waggoner, Braxton McCauley, Aliza Jewell and Ava Ratliff were all named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference First Team by the league coaches.

Waggoner, an Indiana State recruit, posted a 15-5 record as a pitcher this season and graduated with school records for career wins (55) and strikeouts (569). She hit .371 with 5 homers and 28 RBIs as BNL posted a 24-8 record.

McCauley, a Purdue recruit, hit .445 with 7 homers and 38 RBIs. She tied the school record for career hits (130), set the record for career doubles (36) and matched Ratliff with a single-season mark of 16 doubles this year. She finished third on the program list with 20 career homers, second in career RBIs (110) and second in runs scored (95).

Jewell, a junior pitcher and outfielder, hit .528 with 6 home runs and 46 RBIs, and she was one behind Ratliff’s school record for single-season hits with 56. She also went 8-2 in the circle.

BNL junior Aliza Jewell was a contributor as a hitter and pitcher for the Stars.

Ratliff, one of the best catchers in the nation, led the state in home runs (for the second time) with 22 while batting .538 with 53 RBIs. She set school records for home runs, hits (57), doubles and RBIs. The sophomore already ranks among the top 10 in state history in career home runs with 43.

The rest of the First Team included Floyd Central’s Kylie Franks, Peyton Drummond, Kate Satkoski and Emory Waterbury; Columbus East’s Kenzie Foster and Kaylee Cole; New Albany’s Cheyenne Palmer and Reese Raymond; Jennings County’s Mackenzie Matern; Jeffersonville’s Brookelyn Miles; and Seymour’s Abby Followell.

Floyd Central won the league title and coach Sean Payne was named Coach of the Year.
