MITCHELL – Charles Edwin “Eddie” McLain has withdrawn his candidacy as Mitchell Mayor.
McLain said he didn’t want “the bad publicity for the town of Mitchell” when he filed his candidate withdrawal form at the Voter registration office.
This action came after Mitchell Mayor Nathan Jenkins filed a complaint with the Lawrence County Election Board alleging that Independent Mayor candidate McLain has not resided in the City of Mitchell for six months. Jenkins has since withdrawn his complaint.
He asked the Election Board to remove McLain’s name from the November election ballot.
A hearing was scheduled for Thursday, June 29 at 1:30 p.m. That hearing has now been canceled.
