Michigan Man arrested after a vehicle pursuit in Howard County

HOWARD CO. – Sunday morning, a vehicle pursuit led to the arrest of Mark A. Ashley, 25, of Grand Rapids, MI.

He was incarcerated in Howard County to face preliminary charges for resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle a Level 6 felony and criminal recklessness a Class A misdemeanor. 

On Sunday, June 4, 2023, at approximately 9:05 a.m., Indiana State Police Master/Trooper Mathew Rogers initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on US 31 near Toby Pike for traveling 97 mph.

The driver of the Chevrolet, later identified as Ashley, allegedly did not stop and led the trooper on a vehicle pursuit.

The chase continued into Hamilton County, where Westfield Police Department Officers set out stop sticks (tire deflation devices). The Chevrolet struck the stop sticks, deflating two tires.

The pursuit stopped in Westfield after the vehicle struck a tree, and the driver fled on foot; leaving an adult passenger and a child in the vehicle.

 A perimeter was put in place and Ashley was later taken into custody without further incident. 

 This is still an ongoing investigation.

 Rogers was assisted by Trooper Chad Babbs, District 52 Troopers, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Westfield Police Department.
