City of Bloomington announces new Latino Outreach Coordinator

BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department is pleased to announce Ximena Martinez Ruiz as the new Latino Outreach Coordinator. She assumes the position previously held by Josefa Madrigal, who now serves as Chief of Staff to Mayor John Hamilton.

Ximena brings a wealth of talent and experience to this position. She received a Masters of International Affairs degree from Indiana University and her undergraduate degree from Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM) in International Relations. Ximena has worked with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Mexico City in the area of strategic planning and served with the Ministry of Economy and Maritime Affairs in Lisbon, Portugal. While matriculating at Indiana University, Ximena worked as an International Student Coordinator and teaching assistant.

The Latino Outreach Coordinator is a multifaceted position. It involves providing support to Spanish-speaking residents, working with local organizations and agencies to ensure all Bloomington residents can access services, and planning activities and events that educate the community and enhance the experiences of Hispanic and Latinx residents in Bloomington. Additionally, Ximena will produce the weekly WFHB Spanish language public affairs program, Hola Bloomington, and serve as the Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs liaison.
