COLUMBUS — On Monday, a Columbus man attempted to flee the Bartholomew County Courthouse after he received a 200-day jail sentence on a charge of criminal conversion that he had pleaded guilty to.
While receiving the sentence in Superior Court II, 35-year-old Trevin Littlejohn announced loudly he would not be going to jail. As a court security officer walked toward Littlejohn to take him into custody, he ran to the doors of the courtroom and used chairs to obstruct the officer. He made it out into the hallway of the courthouse.
A probation officer who was also in the courtroom managed to grab hold of Littlejohn at the top of a staircase and told him he was going to deploy his stun gun if he didn’t stop running.
Littlejohn then escaped the probation officer’s grasp and nearly made his way down the stairs. After warning Littlejohn several times to stop, another officer tased Littlejohn. The prongs had “little to no effect” on Littlejohn, according to Sheriff Chris Lane.
Littlejohn attempted to escape again. He was then tased a third time and fell to the floor and was detained.
Littlejohn was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. On the way to the hospital, Littlejohn attempted to strangle himself using the seatbelt in the correction transport van.
After being released from the hospital he was transported to jail to serve his sentence and now will face a new charge of resisting arrest.
