BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on drug charges on Monday, June 5th after Bedford Police officers responded to a call of a male yelling and swearing at people in the area of 14th and L street.
The caller reported the male was carrying a blue suitcase and wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, and black shoes.
When officers arrived at 3:54 p.m. they found 25-year-old Eric Lockridge sitting against a building at the intersection of 14th and L streets. Before the officers could exit their vehicles, Lockridge began to gather his belongings and began walking east on 14th Street. An officer requested Lockridge to stop and speak with the officers. Lockridge dropped his suitcase and walked further east on 14th Street and told the officer to not come any closer.
While speaking to him, Lockridge threw a partially smoked cigarette into the roadway on 14th Street.
He was requested to pick up the cigarette and provide officers with his identification.
He was warned about his disorderly conduct and officers left the scene.
Officers later learned that Lockridge was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in Marion County and they would extradite Lockridge to their county to face charges.
At approximately 4:25 p.m., a Bedford Police officer found Lockridge laying under a tree in the parking lot of the First Christian Church on 15th Street.
When officers approached Lockridge he stood up and began backing away. An officer advised Lockridge he was being detained on an active warrant and he responded, “No I do not” and pulled away from an officer. Another officer grabbed Lockridge in an attempt to gain control of his wrists. Lockridge forcibly pulled his body away from the officer and yelled. An officer was able to gain control of Lockridge’s wrists, however, he continued to pull his arms against his torso. While doing so he stated he would not get into a patrol car. Lockridge was then taken to the ground and gained control of his hands and he was placed in handcuffs.
He was given multiple commands to stand up but he refused. He was then lifted off the ground and escorted to a police vehicle. Once near the vehicle, Lockridge refused to get inside and had to be placed into the vehicle. Lockridge placed his foot against the rear driver’s side door in an attempt to prevent the officer from closing the door. Once the door was closed Lockridge began kicking the door and back windows. The vehicle did not have window guards, so he was removed from that police vehicle and placed into another police vehicle with window guards.
During a search, police found a plastic baggy in Lockridge’s wallet that contained crystal meth.
Lockridge was arrested on charges of possession of meth, resisting arrest, and the failure to appear warrant.
