BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on drug charges Monday after a Bedford Police Officer stopped his vehicle because it was traveling about 5 miles an hour north on O Street at 16th Street.
The officer said the vehicle, a Honda Accord, was smoking and the license plate was expired.
The driver 30-year-old Landon Ikerd told the officer he was having some sort of issue and was just attempting to get the vehicle home, a couple of blocks away.
The officer ran the license plate and learned it had expired seven years ago. The officer then ran the vehicle identification number and didn’t get a return.
Ikerd told the officer he had purchased the vehicle from a friend and his friend got the vehicle from somebody who owed that friend money. The officer noticed the driver’s side window had been broken out.
Ikerd stepped out of the vehicle and the officer patted him down for safety.
In Ikerd’s pocket, the officer located money and a medication bottle that contained a cut red straw with meth residue on it. In Ikerd’s wallet, the officer found two plastic baggies that contained crystal meth.
The officer also found a red staw between the driver’s seat and center console that tested positive for meth.
Ikerd was arrested on charges of possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The vehicle was photographed, inventoried, and towed by Stone City Collision.
