BEDFORD – Two 13-year-old females and a 14-year-old male were issued a summons to appear in court on a charge of illegal consumption.
Officers responded to a call in the area of 19th and C streets on Tuesday after a report of several intoxicated juveniles.
The caller told police she knew the juveniles were intoxicated and believed they were running away.
An officer located the four teens at the intersection of 17th and C streets and told them to stop. The 14-year-old male told the officer no and continued to walk away but was stopped by one of the three females.
One of the females told the officer she had just met up with the group and had not been drinking. She performed a portable breath test confirming she had not been drinking. She was given a ride by a second officer and released to her parents.
The other three teens were detained on charges of illegal consumption after testing positive for consuming alcohol. Police say their speech was slurred and their eyes glassy and they were swaying. They were transported to the Bedford Police Department.
The male continued to be aggressive and that he was “pleading the Fifth Amendment” and told the females “to shut up”.
One of the female juveniles told police her father purchased the alcohol for them.
All three juveniles were issued summons to appear in court and released to their guardians.
Police then spoke to the parent accused of providing the teens with the alcohol he told police the alcohol went missing from his home around 6 a.m. He denied providing the teens with the alcohol.
