BEDFORD – On May 25, 2022, A Bedford man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.
Byron P. Ira, 53, Bedford, pleaded guilty to Operating a Vehicle after being a Habitual Traffic Offender, a Level 6 felony, on May 19, 2022, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was originally sentenced to 800 days, with time served, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 365 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
While on probation, Ira was charged with and ultimately pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, on Jan. 12, 2023, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was originally sentenced to 910 days, with time served, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
On May 25, 2023, Ira admitted to violating the terms and conditions of probation in his two probation cases. In response to those admissions, Judge Cline revoked Ira’s suspended sentences and sentenced him to a total of 1598 days in IDOC.
“The State of Indiana takes probation violations seriously, as should the defendants who accept probation as part of their plea agreement. When Defendants violate their probation, the State will recommend to the court that the Defendant’s probation be terminated and the remainder of their suspended sentence be executed in the Indiana Department of Correction,” said Lawrence County Prosecutor Samuel A. Arp, II.
On May 25, 2022, A Mitchell man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.
Aaron Lee Pinkston, Jr., 27, Mitchell, pleaded guilty to Alteration of a Firearm’s Identifying Marks, a Level 5 felony, on March 17, 2022, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was originally sentenced to 910 days, with time served, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
On May 25, 2023, Pinkston, Jr., pleaded guilty to Attempted Escape, a Level 6 Felony, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was sentenced to 365 days, all executed, in the Indiana Department of Correction in exchange for his guilty plea.
As a result of that guilty plea, Judge Cline revoked Pinkston Jr.’s, suspended sentence in his probation case and ordered him to serve 242 days in the Indiana Department of Correction. The two sentences are to run consecutively for a combined sentence of 607 days in the Indiana Department of Correction.
