BEDFORD – A Bloomington man was arrested on drug charges on Friday, June 9 after a Bedford Police officer entered the JayC Foods Plus store after his shift.
The officer was still in uniform and entered the store just after 10 p.m. Two female employees spotted the officer and reported there was a suspicious male in the store at the self-checkout registers.
The officer found 34-year-old Jeremy Vestal acting erratically and he was sweating profusely. The officer said Vestal had “little control over his movements”.
Vestal purchased his groceries and left the store and was found walking west on the sidewalk in front of the store. The officer said Vestal was having a hard time walking and was unsteady.
The officer stopped Vestal. The officer said Vestal had pinpoint pupils and was sweating profusely, his speech was slurred, and could not maintain his balance.
Vestal told the officer he had not taken anything illegal. The officer requested to search Vestal’s pockets and asked if it was safe to do that. Vestal admitted there was a syringe in his pocket.
During a search of Vestal’s pockets, the officer seized a black bag that contained a syringe. A plastic bag with crystal meth and fentanyl was found in Vestal’s wallet, and two wrappers containing meth residue.
Shawswick EMS Truck 11 arrived on the scene and evaluated Vestal.
Vestal admitted to using drugs about two hours before the officer stopped him.
After being medically cleared, Vestal was arrested on charges of possession of meth, public intoxication, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of a narcotic drug.
