Columbus couple arrested after police find meth and fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills

COLUMBUS – A husband and wife were arrested after the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team find meth and deadly counterfeit pills in their Columbus home on Monday, June 12.

Police arrests of 56-year-old Larry Ward Jr. and 51-year-old Dawnya Ward.

Police say the couple was identified as suspected retail distributors of various illegal controlled substances.

Police were granted a search warrant to search the couple’s home on Union Street.

During the search police found meth, fentanyl, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and digital scales. They added that nearly 200 suspected counterfeit Oxycodone pills were also found. They later field-tested positive for fentanyl. The total street value for the pills is an estimated $3,700, according to police.

DEA Laboratory testing revealed that six out of ten fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills contain a potentially fatal dose.

During an interview, Dawnya Ward admitted to selling hundreds of counterfeit pills.

Both are facing preliminarily felony charges of dealing meth and dealing a narcotic drug.
