Camp Atterbury celebrating its 80th Anniversary with Community Day events

EDINBURGH – Camp Atterbury will be celebrating its 80th Anniversary with a Community Day on Saturday, June 24th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Camp Atterbury provides full logistical and training support for up to two brigade-sized elements simultaneously on more than 34,000 acres. The federally owned facility, licensed to and operated by the Indiana National Guard, offers a variety of training ranges, live-fire venues, managed airspace with air-to-ground firing capabilities, and an LVC simulation and exercise center. The base was formed out of parts of Bartholomew, Brown, and Johnson counties in 1942, just after the start of World War II.

You can enter the base for the Community Day through the Schoolhouse Road Gate on Old Hospital Road in Edinburgh.

The celebration will include tours, live-fire exercises, demonstrations of weapons and rappelling, along with food vendors, displays, and children’s activities.

There will also be a 5K Run/Walk/Ruck starting at 8 a.m. You can sign up for the 5k through the base’s Facebook page.

The Camp Atterbury Museum will be open all day for visitors. The Museum is located inside the Welcome Center just before you get to the Main Gate.
