WASHINGTON CO. – The Washington County Sheriff’s Department hosted its quarterly drive-thru drug drop and food drive event on Saturday, collecting over 500 food items that were donated to a local food bank and over 90 pounds of prescription drugs that were incinerated.
In total, 93 pounds of prescription drugs were collected on the day.
The department also collected 552 food items that were donated to the Washington County Food Bank, located at 106 Water St., in Salem.
“We are so thankful for our citizens that always show up to donate to our food drive,” a post about the event on the department’s Facebook page said. “Remember, ‘Hunger Knows No Season’ and the local food bank is always so appreciative for the donations.”
The next quarterly drive-thru drug drop/food drive will be held in August. If you have prescription medications that need to be destroyed in the meantime, there is a Drug Drop Box located in the lobby of the Criminal Justice Center, located at 801 Jackson Street in Salem.
