BEDFORD – During Thursday’s meeting, members of the North Lawrence Community Schools board approved the purchases of over 40 new interactive whiteboards, as well as new bleachers for some of the sports fields at Bedford North Lawrence High School.
The board approved a purchase agreement with Empower Learning for 47 new interactive whiteboards to begin replacing the district’s Smartboards, which are said to now be outdated.
The new boards are Promethean’s ActivPanel 9 Premium 75″, purchased at the price of $3,700 each. The purchase order also includes warranties and installation.
According to NLCS Curriculum Specialist Tricia Hudson, the boards were selected after a trial process with NLCS teachers, who tested different options before voting in favor of this one.
The board also approved the purchase of new bleachers for BNL’s baseball, softball and soccer fields.
The project was outlined by the members of the board during last year’s budgeting process and is already accounted for, thus it will not take away from any other potential future projects, according to board president Wendy Miller.
Board member Tracy Bailey said this replacement is necessary to maintain safety, given the condition of the current bleachers at the fields.
“We’re getting rid of some pretty faulty equipment. Last year, one of them actually collapsed backward at the soccer field. We could’ve had a lawsuit on our hands,” he said.
The total cost of the project is $130,130.
- Baseball – $52,140
- Softball – $42,960
- Soccer – $35,030
