BEDFORD – Charges have been dropped against a Mitchell man arrested on drug charges on November 2, 2022.
Justin Bisping was facing charges of possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Having reviewed the case, the case from Monroe County, and reviewing deposition testimony
from a witness, the State’s position is that it was in the best interest of Justice to dismiss the case
without prejudice,” said Deputy Prosecutor Robert Garrett. Our office takes pride in reviewing each case, and if there is any doubt on our end, we will dismiss the case and investigate it further. This case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning we reserve the right to refile charges at a later date if, after further investigation, the evidence supports refining the charges.”
Bisping was arrested after an Indiana State Police trooper stopped his truck on State Road 37 for having a headlight out and then failing to signal during a lane change.
The trooper stopped the driver then 38-year-old Justin Bisping on Oolitic Road, on the east side of State Road 37.
The trooper determined Bisping was driving on a suspended driver’s license. While speaking to Bisping the trooper noticed he was sweating and appeared nervous. Bisping kept voluntarily telling the trooper there was nothing illegal in the vehicle.
A Lawrence County deputy arrived on the scene with his canine partner Dusty. They conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted officers to possible drugs in the Dodge pickup.
Behind the driver’s seatbelt police found a plastic bag containing crystal meth and a glass smoking device. Bisping denied the drugs were his but later admitted he had used meth at least twice weekly.
