BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence girls golf coach Kori Johnston carded another Bedford Ladies City Tournament title on Sunday, firing a 1-over 71 en route to her fourth championship at Otis Park.
Johnston jumpstarted her second round with an eagle on the par-5 fifth while completing 36 holes at 1-over 145. She added to her City trophy collection (2011, 2013 and 2018) with her first victory in five years, and she finished 10 shots ahead of runner-up and defending champion Brooklyn Cromwell.
With assistance from her caddy (brother Kole Jacobsen) on the greens, Johnston recorded three birdies (holes 6 and 9 while firing a hot 34 on the front nine, followed by a final birdie on 17) to go with the eagle and offset four bogeys.
“It felt great to get another win,” Johnston said. “My driver was on fire this weekend and I was hitting it further than I ever have before. However, my short game was really letting me down. I had a lot of three-putts the first round, and even drove the green on 12 then four-putted for a bogey.
“Honestly my caddy deserved a raise this weekend. I was struggling on the greens until he stepped in and helped me read them. It really improved my putting for Day 2, and helped me capitalize on my good drives. I don’t think I would’ve shot what I did today without him.”
In the other divisions, BNL’s Chloe McFaddin won the girls Junior City again with rounds of 85-82, edging Darian Lafferty by four shots. Jett Jones won the boys Junior with scores of 80-80, clipping former BNL teammate Colton Staggs by one stroke to defend his title.
Former BNL standout J.T. Bellush won the Senior City, posting rounds of 75-72 for a one-shot victory over Craig Reiner in the Championship Flight.
