WILLIAMS – A 12-year-old boy was injured after he crashed a vehicle into a tree Sunday morning in the 2000 block of Williams Road.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident at 1 a.m.
According to police, the boy was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy headed west on Williams Road. Police say he was traveling at an unsafe speed and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree head-on.
Police found the boy laying on the ground.
A passerby saw the vehicle’s hazard lights on, stopped to assist, and called 911. The passerby found the boy in the driver’s seat and laid him on the ground.
The boy suffered a head injury and was bleeding from a laceration on the left side of his head. He was able to give the officers his name and said he was 12 years old and just wanted to go for a drive.
The boy said he was driving east on Williams Road and then decided to turn around and head home when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
The boy was transported by Lawrence County Fire Territory ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment. The boy’s mother was alerted and met the ambulance at the hospital.
The vehicle had heavy front-end damage and wasn’t drivable. The vehicle was towed by Mikels Towing and Recovery.
