MISHAWAKA – Monday night a South Bend man with a two-year-old child in his vehicle was arrested for charges related to operating while intoxicated after he was stopped by an Indiana State Trooper in Mishawaka.
At approximately 10:40 p.m. on June 26, ISP Trooper Brian Robbins stopped a 2010 GMC SUV for an equipment violation near Lincoln Way and Taylor Street. Robbins noted that the GMC stopped in the roadway and did not pull to the side of the road.
While speaking to the driver, 35-year-old Reginald Harris of South Bend, Trooper Robbins noticed signs that indicated Harris was impaired by alcohol. He also noticed a two-year-old child in the back seat of the SUV.Â
Harris was more than twice the legal limit after being taken for a certified test. He was arrested on a Level 6 felony of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, with a passenger less than 18 years old and a misdemeanor charge of OWI and OWI without obtaining a driver’s license.
Harris was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail. The child was released to a relative that was contacted to come to the scene.
