BEDFORD – Junior Stars Football provides students in grades 3-6 an opportunity to compete in tackle football this fall prior to being able to play in middle school.
Junior Stars has officially joined the Southwest Indiana Youth Football League and have an exciting seven-game season scheduled, plus two tournament games. Teams include Eastern, Washington, North Davies, North Knox, Sullivan, and North Central.
Coaches for the grades 3-4 team and the grades 5-6 team have been selected by BNL staff and have completed certification in tackling, blocking, and safety from USA Football.
This program was created for those players that are still interested in playing tackle football in Lawrence County. The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County recently made the decision to eliminate tackle football as an offered program at the club.
The program is not limited to North Lawrence Community Schools students, and is open to students throughout Lawrence County.
“We are very thankful for everyone that has donated so far,” said Eric Spreen. “We have raised $12,265 from a lot of local supporters and donors. This allowed us to purchase the helmets! We currently need $15,200 to complete our order which will include shoulder pads and game jerseys and pants for all of our players. The GREAT NEWS is that we have a $7,600 match grant available to us! Every dollar we raise starting today will be matched dollar for dollar up to $7,600 and will fulfill our equipment order. This equipment will be used for the upcoming season and for future teams.”
There is still time to register. Registration ends Friday night June 30th. Due to the equipment requirements and availability, no late registration will be accepted.
“We have kept our league fees to a bare minimum and want to keep it that way,” added Spreen. “We are counting on even more of our community supporters and local fans for the last bit of fundraising. This equipment will be used for the upcoming season and for future teams. We are a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit and can provide a receipt upon request.”
If you know someone that can’t afford the registration fee, please have them email juniorstarsfootball@gmail.com or reach out on Facebook.
