Investigation continues into infants death that occurred at local daycare

MITCHELL – The investigation into the death of 4-month-old Ember Dees at Boots & Bows Daycare in Mitchell continues.

Indiana State Police Bloomington District responded to the daycare in Mitchell on Wednesday, March 15, in regard to a death investigation.

Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a call at 2:37 p.m. on that day reporting a medical emergency at Boots and Bows Daycare on Teke Burton Drive in Mitchell. Mitchell Police Department, Mitchell Fire Department, and an IU Lifeline Ambulance responded to the scene.

An autopsy has been performed, and Forensic Pathologist James Jacobi ruled the death undetermined but also sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Which is the sudden and unexplained death of a baby younger than 1-year-old.

The initial case report by ISP is more than 30 pages long and was presented to Lawrence County Prosecutor Sam Arp for review.

“We understand that there are often questions regarding such a tragic event,” said Prosecutor Arp. “After reading the report, I still have some unanswered questions. I have submitted those questions to the Indiana State Police for further follow-up.”
