Barbara Sue Terry, 78, of Bedford, passed away at home surrounded by family on July 6, 2023, following a four-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Barb was born in Bedford, Indiana to parents Homer and Naomi (Jackson) Girdley on February 13, 1945. She grew up in a close-knit household with her parents, sister, and several grandparents all living under the same roof. She graduated from Oolitic High School in 1962 and went to work at NSWC Crane, first as Personnel and later as a Computer Specialist. She married Ronald George Terry on Christmas Eve 1966 and they had one daughter, Brett.
After retiring from Crane, she worked tirelessly as the President of the local NARFE chapter for nearly a decade and served on the Lawrence County Community Foundation board. Barb loved action movies, hated to fly, fangirled over Hugh Jackman and the band Queen, adored her cat Boo, and cherished her family and friends. Everyone who met her knew she loved to laugh and sometimes apologized for being the loudest one in the room.
She’s survived by her daughter Brett, her sister Margaret (David) Riggs, nieces Kirsten (John) Gore, Angie Thompson, Laura (David) Zapp, and Erin Terry, nephews Matthew Terry and Ryan (Jaymie) Terry, great-nieces Kelsie Thompson and Isabella Zapp, great-nephews Jackson Gore, Max Thompson, Josh Terry, Henry Terry and Jacob Terry, sisters-in-law Susie Terry and Jo Terry, and brothers-in-law Mike Terry and Pat Terry.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her ex-husband Ron, brother-in-law Jim Terry, sister-in-law Suellen Terry and nephew Josh Terry.
Barb has requested cremation and has chosen to have no traditional services. Instead of visitation and a funeral, a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. She would love for you to bring your funny, weird, and meaningful stories to share with everyone.
In place of flowers, the family has requested those wishing to honor Barb’s life make donations to one of the following groups or a cause near to their hearts: Hoosier Hills Food Bank, White River Humane Society, Bertha’s Mission, Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services and Becky’s Place.
