BEDFORD – Fire station 3 – Englewood, in Bedford, is hopefully set for renovation after several bids were taken under consideration by the Board of Works earlier this week at Tuesday’s meeting.
Bedford Board of Works received four bids for the project:
- TNG Construction – $47,758
- McIntyre Construction – $91,550
- Kirts Renovation LLC. – $74,875
- Pritchett Brothers Construction – $83,601
The board took these bids under advisement.
The Board of Works received two bids to renovate the building during their June meeting but those bids were rejected after the bids did not meet the required expectations.
The station was constructed in 1976. The building sat empty from 1976 until 1978 when six firefighters were hired to man the station. The station is now manned by two firefighters per shift and responds to incidents on the south side of the city.
Bedford’s Englewood fire station was closed temporarily on November 14, 2022, after birds entered the building, causing health concerns for firefighters.
An approximate value spent to provide the updates and repairs is nearly $43,520.50 which included spray foam insulation, painting gridwork of the suspended ceiling and exterior walls, installation of ceiling tile, LED fixtures, and HVAC ductwork cleaning.
Bedford Fire Department has three fire stations throughout the city. Those fire stations include Headquarters at 1900 H Street, Station 2 at 5th Street and Lincoln Avenue, and Station 3 at 29th and Illinois Streets.
