BEDFORD – At yesterday’s Back-to-School-Bash at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, Mitchell Community School students enjoyed a chance to collect free supplies and a fun experience!
There were 1,500 of each type of supply provided at Hoosier Uplands’ Back-to-School Bash. That should give you an idea of how many they expected to attend, but you would still do a double-take when you saw the large attending crowd.
Abby Karr is the Art teacher at Mitchell Junior High School, and she had no idea the horde of people that awaited. When asked if she knew how many people were planning to attend, she said she had only heard about it. “I haven’t seen the line,” she said, smiling “But it terrifies me.”
Mckaylyn Dotts, 12, who was attending with her friends, says she was very excited to come to the Back-to-School-Bash. “We jumped right out of bed when we heard!”
Mckaylyn was excited for her classes to start again so she could make friends, and enjoy her math class.
McKaylyn wasn’t the only one, though. Hundreds came out to enjoy the day, filing through the booths, playing with the games, and munching free popcorn all the while.
Families and kids of all ages waiting to get in.
According to Olivia Mills, who brought Gage Penrose, 9, it took nearly two hours to get from the middle of the line to the inside of the expo hall. “It’s a lot,” she said “We’re not used to it – we’re homebodies.”
“I’m nervous,” Gage added. “I’m shy. But I like talking to my friends.”
Though the side doors were open for those that weren’t here for school supplies, the grand majority waited their turn in the line, chatting and inching slowly along as time progressed.
