MITCHELL – With the slamming success of yesterday’s Back-to-School-Bash at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds heralding the end of summer, Mitchell Community School students will return to school on August 3, 2023, on the first Thursday of the month.
Student Registration:
- Online registration will open Monday, July 24th, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.
- On-site registration will begin Wednesday, July 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- MCS also plans to be open with extended hours on Thursday evening, July 27th from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Students that are 5 years old on or before August 1 of the school year are eligible for kindergarten.
Students will not be charged curricular material fees or class fees for the 2023-2024 school year. An exception are high school students enrolled in certain dual credit courses or NLCS career center courses. MCS will have an optional Chromebook insurance plan for $20 per student.
All MCS students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch meals for the 2023-2024 school year.
MCS strongly encourages families who are eligible by income for federal benefits to complete the Educational Benefits application during registration as the school has other local and state programs families may qualify for by filling out this form, including Weekend Snack Bags and some college scholarship applications. This form also can help our corporation receive grant funding.

The first student day for MCS is August 3, 2023.
Hoosier Uplands provides Hatfield and Burris Students a FREE after school program daily that includes a snack, homework help, STEM/STEAM activities, literacy support, and guest speakers.
