Owen Valley star athlete killed in car accident

OWEN CO. – Owen Valley High School Senior Tristan Calvin lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday.

The 17-year-old star athlete was killed after he crashed his vehicle on US 231. The vehicle left the roadway near Lanes Road and struck a metal culver head-on.

The impact caused the vehicle to flip and land on its roof, said Owen County Sheriff Ryan White. When authorities arrived around 8 p.m. Thursday, they had to free Calvin from the vehicle.

The sheriff said while it had sprinkled earlier that day, it did not appear that road conditions or inclement weather contributed.

Calvin died from his injuries at the scene.

The school posted on Facebook that Calvin was a gifted athlete. He was a member of the cross country, track, and swimming teams. He also marched in the Patriot Band.

“Through these activities and daily interactions at school, Tristan positively impacted everyone around him. We plan to honor Tristan’s legacy, and we will run, swim, march, and play in his memory throughout the 2023-2024 school year. This is an extremely sad time and we ask that you keep all of the Calvin family in your thoughts and prayers,” the post said.

OVHS has counselors available for any student or staff member that needs support during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, in the Owen Valley High School Auditorium.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of service Tuesday evening at the high school. Â
