GREENE CO. – The man involved in an officer-involved shooting in Greene County on July 19, 2023, has been identified.
The male subject has been identified as 33-year-old Jade R. Remick, of Bloomfield.
Detectives from the Indiana State Police were requested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
An autopsy for Remick had been conducted on Thursday, July 20th.
This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation, and detectives are working closely with the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Wednesday, July 19, at approximately 3:15 a.m. a complainant contacted the Central Dispatch Center to report his 31-year-old daughter had been shot in the leg with a rifle by her ex-boyfriend, Jade Remick.
The incident occurred between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, July 18th at the victim’s residence at Eagle Pointe.
Around 10:15 p.m., Tuesday Remick drove the victim to a property on Old Clifty Road located in Bloomfield, while armed with a rifle and a handgun. Once there, the victim briefly lost consciousness due to the leg wound, waking up around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim was then driven back to her residence in Monroe County by Remick.
The victim arrived home around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and after being there a short time, drove to her parents’ residence to seek help, which is when the victim’s father notified law enforcement.
The female victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for a non-life-threatening leg injury. It was discovered through the investigation that Remick has a pending case of domestic violence with the female victim and that there was a no-contact order in place.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office requested deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department check the address on Old Clifty Road, in an attempt to locate Remick and secure the property pending a search warrant. A deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the address in order to assist Greene County.
Once deputies arrived at the property, they located Remick’s vehicle with a tent set up next to it. Deputies were holding the perimeter when they saw Remick unzip and look out of the window of the tent.
Deputies identified themselves as being with the Sheriff’s Office, and a few seconds later a gunshot was heard coming from the tent. A Greene County deputy discharged his patrol rifle toward the tent.
Bloomington Police Department’s Critical Incident Response Team was contacted and requested to respond to the address.
Once they arrived, they discovered Remick deceased inside the tent. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Indiana State Police.
