Applications available for a vacant, common council-appointed position on the Capital Improvement Board


BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington Office of the City Clerk is accepting applications to fill a
vacant position on the Capital Improvement Board (CIB).

The Capital Improvement Board’s goal is to manage and direct the affairs of the Convention Center
and its expansion project including selecting the site for the expansion of the Convention Center
expansion components, including a site plan, selection, and contract with the operation and management
organization(s), oversee the process for hotelier partner selection, name the expanded center, hire/retain
support staff, and the need for additional amenities including a parking garage.

The Capital Improvement Board will consist of seven members, consistent with IC 36-10-8-4. Monroe County shall appoint three members and the City of Bloomington shall appoint three members. Those
six members appointed shall appoint the seventh appointment and must comply with IC 36-10-8-4(b).
The Mayor shall appoint two members, the appointments must not be from the same political party.
The City Council shall appoint one member. The County Commissioners shall appoint two members,
and the appointments must not be from the same political party. The County Council shall appoint one
member.

To create staggered appointments, the first round of appointments made by the Mayor and
the County Commissioners will expire ending on January 15, 2024. All other and subsequent
appointments will be two-year appointments to the CIB.

The estimated time to fulfill the duties is to be determined. There is no compensation.
