BEDFORD – A Solsberry woman was arrested Thursday on drug charges after a Bedford Police officer stopped her vehicle after she failed to signal a lane change on State Road 37.
Police arrested 37-year-old Jessica Owens on charges of possession of meth and marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officer Taylor Daugherty stopped Owen who was driving a 2008 Ford Focus south on State Road 37 and failed to signal a lane change and again failed to use her turn signal when she turned from State Road 37 onto 16th Street.
Owens told the officer the vehicle belonged to her landlord and she was borrowing it. She did not have her driver’s license, she had forgotten it at home.
When asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, Owens refused to look at the officer or answer. She then told the officer he would have to request a search warrant to search the vehicle.
Bedford Police Sgt. Bade arrived with his canine Zazu who alerted officers to possible drugs in the vehicle.
Police found marijuana in her cigarette pack and a $5 bill rolled with crystal meth inside in a backpack. They also found a pink straw with crystal meth in her wallet.
Owens was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
Her family was alerted and they picked up Owen’s dog and the vehicle.
