BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Thursday, July 27 after a Bedford Police Maj. Jeremy Bridges noticed suspicious activity while on his way to work in the parking lot in the 2000 block of John Williams Boulevard.
The male was holding what appeared to be a flashlight and was looking inside the building through a glass door. Knowing there have been recent burglaries and thefts in the area the officer quickly pulled into the parking lot. The man faced the officer aggressively and began shouting at him. The officer quickly exited his patrol car and the man took off running through the parking lot.
The officer followed, and saw the man throw his light and the bag he was carrying to the ground. The officer continued to pursue the male, instructing him to stop. The officer then deployed his TASER, but it failed to make contact with the fleeing man.
The suspect continued to run west towards the Evans Limestone property, where the officer lost sight of him.
Maj. Blake Wade located 21-year-old Shane Kern hiding behind a semi parked on the property and detained him.
Kern continued to resist and had to be forcefully pulled away from officers, picked up, and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Officers retrieved the items Kern had discarded while he was fleeing the scene.
Evidence seized included :
- 16 sets of keys with various amounts of keys on each key ring (Released to owners)
- Welding shield (Released to owners)
- Crane remote (Released to owners)
- Clear container (Released to owners)
- Two clear plastic bags containing residue and a crystal-like substance that tested positive for meth
- One glass smoking device with meth residue
Kern told police he had walked into IN-FAB via a side door that was unlocked to attempt to get a job. He then took the above-listed items and left the building. Officials at IN-FAB requested to file charges.
Police also recovered ladies’ jewelry, two watches, coins, clothing, and wireless earphones.
Kern was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, possession of meth, resisting arrest by force, fleeing, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
