WHITESTOWN – Kentucky rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to eliminate Bedford’s 12U Little League All-Stars in the Great Lakes Regional on Monday.
With three runs in the last frame, Kentucky advanced with a thrilling 7-6 triumph in the double-elimination, five-team event that is the final step to the Little League World Series.
Bedford, which won the first state title in program history, scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead, but Kentucky (from Lexington) fought back to qualify for the elimination semifinal against either Illinois or Ohio.
After taking an early 1-0 in the first (on a Colt Robbins sacrifice fly), Bedford took a 3-2 advantage in the fourth as Garrett Pace stole home and Cale Prince cracked a RBI single. In the sixth, Robbins belted a two run double and Owen Fausett added a single as Pace scored.
Saxton Pennycuff and Fausett had three hits each while Bear Browning added two. Six of Kentucky’s runs were unearned.
