Domestic fight leads to domestic battery charges and arrest

WILLIAMS – A Williams man was arrested after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 116 Ridge Road.

Codey Andis

While en route police received information that 24-year-old Codey Andis was attempting to leave the home with two children in the back of his black Chevrolet S-10.

When officers arrived they found the truck parked at 143 Ridge Road. Andis was sitting inside the vehicle. He was asked to exit the vehicle and was detained and placed on the ground. While the officer was attempting to detain the female for officer safety, Andis got off the ground to get the kids and enter the home. The female was placed in the back of a police car and officers went into the home to get Andis and the children.

Once inside they found Andis on his knees talking to his daughter. He then got up and started toward the staircase. An officer grabbed Andis by the arm and pulled him away from the staircase and toward the back door. Andis was agitated and he forcefully pulled away and started kicking his feet, causing him and the officer to break through a baby gate near where the female child was standing.

Offices gained control and Andis was placed in a police vehicle.

Both children were given to the care of a neighbor while police investigated.

The female told police she was going out for her birthday and left the kids with Andis’ grandmother. About 20 minutes prior to the police arriving she heard Andis’ S-10. He had picked up the kids and brought them home. She said Andis was playing in the backyard with his daughter and everything seemed to be fine. The child then asked if she could go upstairs and she was attempting to take the child upstairs when Andis became aggressive and told the woman she was crazy and choked her in front of the child. She struggled to get free and ran to neighbors yelling for help.

The neighbor told police, he was inside when he heard a loud bang at his door and he found the woman, Andis, and two children on his deck. He told police Andis had the woman by the hair and was throwing her around. He then attempted to get the kids inside, but every time he tried Andis grabbed them pulling them back outside. The neighbor called 911. Once the neighbor went back outside, the couple were back inside their home. He then saw the woman attempting to run back to his house and he saw Andis grab the woman by the hair and started slapping her. He intervened and Andis struck him. The neighbor then called 911 a second time.

The neighbor did not want to file charges.

The female suffered injuries to her neck and throat and bruising to her arm. She also had numerous bruises on her legs.

The woman signed a battery affidavit and Andis was arrested on charges of domestic battery with a prior unrelated conviction, resisting arrest.

The Department of Child Services was also contacted.
