MITCHELL – The Indiana State Fire Marshal has ordered all work to stop at the Fun Finds Antiques Collectibles & More at 621 Main Street in Mitchell.
The work was stopped after Hooper Construction failed to conduct an engineering study and secure the required building permit from the State Building Commission in Indiana.
The building partially collapsed on December 7, 2022.
The incident forced an evacuation of the downtown area due to a gas leak.
Mayor Nathan Jenkins hopes Indiana Landmarks may be interested in restoring the historical building along with the former First National Bank building at 626 West Main Street.
