OWI suspect tells police he was on an apple juice run

BEDFORD – A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy arrested a Bloomington man after he stopped his vehicle for speeding on Old State Road 37 early Saturday morning.

The officers stopped the driver a Tacoma for traveling 84 miles per hour in a posted 45 miles-per-hour zone.

Dennis Tannen

The deputy asked the driver 34-year-old Dennis Tannen why he was driving so fast and he told the deputy he was babysitting a friend’s child and left the child with a neighbor while he went to get apple juice.

The deputy noticed Tannen had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. Tannen admitted to drinking two beers a couple of hours prior.

Tannen failed several field sobriety tests. Tannen blew a 0.126 on a portable breath test.

Tannen was transported to the house to check on the child and then transported to jail on charges of reckless driving, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

The vehicle was towed by Stone City Service & Collision Center.
