BEDFORD – A Mitchell woman is facing a charge of theft after stealing items from Walmart.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on July 29th, Bedford Police officers were requested to Walmart after a report that 45-year-old Alicia Claffy had been detained by asset protection.
Claffy told police she had left her debit card in her vehicle and she was exiting the store to retrieve it. But store employees witness Claffy pushing her cart of merchandise out of the store.
She told police she was planning on retrieving the card, returning to the store, and paying for the items.
Police say there were 19 items in the cart totaling more than $101.
While speaking to police they noticed she was clutching her purse. She then admitted there were items inside her purse she had not paid for. Inside the purse officers found another 19 items that totaled more than $129.
The total number of items stolen was 38 with a value of more than $230.
