BEDFORD – At Monday’s Redevelopment Commission meeting, the board approved the next payment of $73,789.42 to Midwestern Engineers Inc. to cover the ongoing construction of the new Bedford Police Station.
Police Chief Terry Moore presented the progress report to the commission. According to Cheif Moore, “More percentage of the work is done than what we were billed for.” The modification of the former grocery store building is proceeding at a good pace.
As the building nears completion, some of the services that will be provided include bulletproof glass and ballistic shields to offer protection for those inside the building.
Due to manufacturer issues and delays with the HVAC systems, a request for an extension of the contract was also approved Monday by the Commission. The heating and cooling systems have now been delivered and installed, but at a later date than the former July 19 deadline.
The new completion date is September first, and the final payment date is October first.
No opening date has been announced to the public.
