BLOOMINGTON — Thousands of students at Indiana University will trek across campus for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 21.
More than 40,000 students are enrolled in classes.
Wednesday, Aug. 16, will mark the start of Welcome Week activities aimed at helping students find their way around, make new friends, and acclimate to campus.
Highlights include:
- New Student Induction Ceremony: 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
- CultureFest: 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Fine Arts Plaza.
- Traditions and Spirit of IU: 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at Memorial Stadium.
The large influx of students means more traffic around town, parking spaces will be a lot harder to find and it will take a while for some of the newer residents to become familiar with Bloomington’s one-way streets and four-way stops.
Travelers should also check the Indiana Department of Transportation TrafficWise website before heading to Bloomington for any potential delays or detours due to construction or traffic. IU Police Department officers will be stationed at several intersections around campus, and signs will help guide traffic.
Officials are asking motorists to give themselves some extra time and a little extra patience while driving through town over the next few days.
IU’s Fall Break is scheduled for October 13-15 and finals will begin the week of December 11.
