TIPTON CO. – Saturday night, August 19th, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Tipton City Police Department, and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash on South Main Street just north of County Road 300 South.
A preliminary investigation by Trooper Abigail Russell revealed that Harrison M. Schwinn, 19, of Anderson, was driving a 2010 Dodge Challenger north on Main Street approaching County Road 300 South. For an undetermined reason, the challenger traveled across the center line and into the southbound lane.
At the time, a 2012 Volkswagen was traveling southbound on Main Street and was struck by the Challenger. The driver of the Volkswagen was later identified as Cory C. Schooley, 17, Westfield.
Jaxson K. Schooley, 17, from Westfield, who was a front-seat passenger of the Volkswagen, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tipton County Coroner’s Office.
Cory Schooley and Schwinn were transported to area hospitals by Samaritan Air for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics is suspected of contributing to this crash. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.
This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation, and there is no further information to release at this time.
