ELLETTSVILLE – Edgewood won two tough opening sets while stopping Bedford North Lawrence during a three-set sweep in high school volleyball action on Monday night.
The Mustangs pulled out a 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 victory as the Stars (3-3) dropped back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
“So disappointing after such a great display of effort and play Saturday,” BNL coach Whitney Carroll said. “Edgewood is a solid team, but they were absolutely beatable. We let too many balls hit the floor on defense.”
Sammie Gratzer paced BNL with 9 kills while Camryn Anderson added 5. Kendlyn Alvey totaled 14 digs on the back row. The Stars also couldn’t overcome Edgewood’s home-floor advantage.
“Their cheering section of boys stood on our side and did more heckling us than cheering for their team,” Carroll said. “And it was really disappointing to see, all the way to booing us out of the locker room and following our bus to Bloomington honking.
“I know that was a lot to process for our girls, but as an athlete you just have to shut out the noise and play. We’re making great strides and getting better, and that’s something I’m proud of. We still had lots of positives to be proud of. We have to come out tomorrow and play our game and flush this one.”
BNL will host Bloomfield on Tuesday.
