BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested after she crashed her car Friday night on River Bluff and Sewer Plant roads.
When police arrived at 11:59 p.m. they found a gold 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 21-year-old Savannah Andis. Police say Andis had exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway crying. She had suffered several medical cuts and abrasions.
Andis told police she was traveling east on River Bluff Road after leaving a friend’s house and was heading home when an animal ran across her path of travel. She told police she swerved to miss the animal and ran off the roadway striking a tree.
Police say they could smell the odor of alcohol while speaking to Andis.
An IU LifeLine ambulance arrived at the scene and medically cleared Andis.
She consented to a preliminary breath test that yielded a 0.131 blood-alcohol level. She then failed several field sobriety tests. She admitted to having a couple of beers about 30 minutes before the crash.
While still at the scene one of Endis’ friends who was walking home stopped. She told police Endis had been at the Boat Club earlier.
Andis was transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. She was then transported to jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The vehicle was towed by Blands Towing and Wrecker Service.
