BRAZIL – Thirty students from Indiana State University converged on the Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch here Monday to ready the 62-acre training retreat for fall and winter family visitors.
ISU volunteers stained fences, trimmed bushes, pulled weeds, and spread mulch as part of the university’s annual Donaghy Day, a decades-long tradition of students’ public service and beautification across the Wabash Valley.
“This week’s visit marks yet another return to our Youth Ranch which enjoys strong partnerships with Sycamore faculty and students – especially their respected Criminology Department,” said Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, ISYR’s president and an ISU alumnus.
Lambda Alpha Epsilon, the law enforcement fraternity at ISU, regularly volunteers and hosts events at the nearby ISYR academy in adjoining Clay County, Plasse said.
“When not hosting AT&T-sponsored Sheriffs’ Reward Retreats or our new Sheriff & Police Cadet Academy, presented by Garmong Construction Services, our Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch hosts off-season events like our Sheriffs’ Pumpkin Painting Party and our Sheriffs’ Breakfast with Santa,” Plasse said. “Volunteers like helpful these ISU students make it possible for us to be good stewards of our donated woods, trails, lakes, and facilities.”
For more information or to volunteer, Plasse encouraged calling ISYR at 317-460-4242.
