The Automated Compost Truck is making rounds in Bedford

BEDFORD – The Automated Compost Truck is now in service. Green totes will be emptied by the automated truck, which will improve the response time and allow for daily pick-ups.

Totes must be on the street to be picked up. Green totes will be picked up automatically at the same time as trash day each week through November 3.

From November 3 to March 29, 2024, you will need to call for service at (812) 279-9222.

Totes are available with the trash utility and the resident splits the cost of the tote, which is approximately $26.

Grass, rose clippings, garden waste, small sticks, leaves, and plant clippings are items that can be placed within the green totes.

Protect our water systems and wildlife:

When grass clippings, leaves, and other yard materials are blown onto streets, they will eventually be washed into stormwater systems. Leaves and debris either get caught in a drain or culvert causing local flooding, or flow through stormwater systems directly into rivers, streams, or stormwater ponds.

Yard debris is organic, so when it enters water bodies, it decays and eats up the oxygen in the water. This can harm aquatic life.
