BEDFORD – New Albany conquered Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during girls high school soccer action on Saturday.
The Bulldogs took advantage of close-range fouls to score goals while winning their Hoosier Hills Conference opener. The Stars (1-3 overall) fell to 0-2 in the league.
“It was a hot, tough game,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said, “especially after practicing inside all week because of the heat. We basically gave them some goals. One was a goal kick that went right to them and ended in a shot and goal. Two others were fouls at the top of the box, which basically gave them a one-on-one shot with our goalie.
“It is disappointing to give up easy goals like that to a team of their stature.”
Britta Warren scored the lone BNL goal off a Jayella Filler assist.
“We had multiple chances to score,” Roberts said. “Mylee Branaman had a good shot on goal that hit the post.
“There was some confusion in our midfield which resulted from lack of communication and bunching up. We were right on top of each other in the middle of the field, which caused some issues.”
The Stars will host Owen Valley on Tuesday.
