BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked at a liquor store.
On Monday, August 28, 2023, at 8:04 p.m. officers with the Bedford Police Department were dispatched to the Kindred Spirits liquor store at 710 Lincoln Avenue after a report of a man who had fallen asleep
behind the wheel of a red Chevrolet pickup.
The pickup was reportedly parked in front of the store.
When police arrived they found the pickup running while parked in the parking lot. The driver’s side door was open.
Police found 35-year-old Jordan Fleetwood, of Bedford, passed out in the driver’s seat. An officer was able to walk Fleetwood with a sternum rub.
Police say, Fleetwood was confused and didn’t know where he was. Police say Fleetwood smelled of alcohol.
He continually asked where his wife and child were, repeatedly stating that his wife had driven him to the liquor store. Police say there were no other individuals inside the pickup.
Fleetwood would not submit to field sobriety tests and he was detained due to his high level of intoxication.
Fleetwood then admitted that approximately one hour before going to Kindred Spirits, he consumed three double shots of alcohol. He did not consume any further alcoholic beverages after arriving at the store.
He then denied driving to Kindred Spitirst and that his wife drove him there while his daughter was in the back seat in a car seat. However, there was no car seat in the pickup.
Police reviewed security footage from Kindred Spirits which showed Fleetwood arriving driving the pickup.
A preliminary breath test was administered to Fleetwood and he blew a 0.119 % blood-alcohol level. He was then transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. Those results are pending.
Fleetwood was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI with a prior conviction.
The pickup was towed by Jackson’s Heavy Haul.
