BEDFORD – An Orleans man was arrested after Bedford Police officers investigated an incident on July 7, 2023.
A warrant was issued for the arrested 22-year-old Zachary Hupp on a charge of criminal mischief.
On that Thursday at 11:27 p.m., Bedford Police officers responded to a report of a verbal domestic fight in the Lowe’s parking lot.
According to a man who witnessed the incident, he and Hupp’s ex-girlfriend were sitting in his vehicle parked near the car wash when Hupp began yelling at his ex-girlfriend. Hupp was furious because she was in a vehicle with another male.
The male then decided to drive away from Hupp. As he was driving away Hupp continued to yell and then pulled either a wooden baseball bat or a two-by-four piece of wood out. He and the ex-girlfriend who was also in the vehicle continued to drive down Plaza Drive and headed towards the Hoosier Hills Credit Union behind Lowe’s waiting for Hupp to leave the area.
When they returned to the parking lot they found the windshield busted out of the ex-girlfriend’s 1992 brown Ford Ranger.
Police spoke to Hupp on July 7, 2023. He denied the allegations.
The ex-girlfriend told police that if Hupp would pay for a new windshield estimated at $350 she would not file charges. He was given three days to respond with payment for that offer.
But on July 19, Hupp had not paid for the damage and the ex-girlfriend requested to file charges.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Hupp’s arrest.
