BEDFORD – The school traffic on the roads outside Hatfield Elementary has been a problem for years. Yesterday, after the public budget hearing, the MCS board announced that the problem had been fixed.
A few weeks ago, this problem was brought to the board as a safety issue during road work in the area.
With a single lane trying to handle both school bus and car traffic for parents dropping off children, it was a safety concern as well as inconvenient and time-consuming. As more and more parents drive their kids to school as opposed to using the bus system, the issue only worsened.
Thankfully, those problems have been resolved. Dr. Brent Comer said that a new policy has been set in place, and since its implementation, the streets have been clear during the usual pick-up rush.
Dr. Brent Comer said that when he left and returned to the school during normal peak pick-up times, he saw “No cars backed up on the road at all.”
