BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was detained on Friday, September 1, after a Bedford Police officer walking out of Revere’s Food & Fuel found her passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot.
The woman, 29-year-old Morgan Wolcott, of Bedford, was passed out in the driver’s seat of a black Kia Forte. The vehicle was running and the lights were on.
The officer knocked on the driver’s side window several times to wake Wolcott.
She then rolled down the window and said she was okay.
The officer noticed that Wolcott appeared to be intoxicated. She told the officer she was on her way to Speedway in Ellettsville but while retrieving her license she told the officer she was on her way home from Bloomington. She then told the officer she was tired and that is why she was parked in the parking lot.
The officer then asked Wolcott for her vehicle registration, she was unable to locate it and also displayed poor manual dexterity while attempting to find it.
She was then asked to exit the vehicle.
Wolcott failed several field sobriety tests. She was read the Indiana Implied Consent and asked if she understood what she had been read. Wolcott was evasive and wouldn’t answer the officer’s question. She then asked if she could make a call and was told no, she then proceeded to remove her phone from her pocket and attempted to use it. The officer reached for the phone and she pulled away.
She was then placed against the vehicle and told to stop resisting. She refused to cooperate and again pulled away from the officer.
She was then handcuffed and placed in the police vehicle. She refused to sit in the vehicle and eventually entered the vehicle but when the officer attempted to close the door she placed her foot against the door preventing the officer from shutting the door. She had to be forced across the rear seat of the vehicle in order to close the door.
A warrant was issued for a blood draw and Wolcott was transported to IU Health Hospital. While being transported she admitted to doing marijuana and meth recently.
Her boyfriend retrieved the vehicle.
Wolcott was transported to jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting arrest by force.
