Officer spots erratic driver, OWI charges made

MITCHELL – A Sheridan man was arrested on Saturday, September 2 after a Mitchell Police officer stopped him driving erratically on State Road 37.

The officer reported the driver of the black Dodge pickup was driving the left and right southbound lane with the two left tires in the left lane and the two right tires in the right lane. The driver continued to split the lanes for about a quarter of a mile.

The driver then went into the right lane crossing over the right lane three times and swerved crossing into the left lane and then back into the right lane two more times.

The officer initiated a traffic stop in the Arby’s parking lot on State Road 37.

Lon Kerr

The driver was 52-year-old Lon Kerr, of Sheridan. He told police he was going to see a friend who was ill. The officer said Kerr smelled of alcohol. Keer told the officer he had drank two beers earlier.

Kerr failed several field sobriety tests. During a preliminary breath test, Kerr had a blood-alcohol content of O.098 percent. He was transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. Those results are pending.

Kerr was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment.
